Camden Babywearing Sling Library

The sling library is a space where you can get help with pretty much all things babywearing and feeding in the slings! Jasmin McGonigle will do the utmost best to support you.

Who is it for?

The sling library is for parents and carers of babies, toddlers and preschoolers. You can also come if you are still expecting your baby and try some slings on with a demo doll/learn to belly wrap your pregnant belly if you fancy trying this out.

The sling library is inclusive and non-judgemental; we welcome all families and we don't care if you haven't been able to wash your hair in days!

What happens during your appointment?

  • Jazz will show you how to use your sling or the library's sling by demoing, guiding you or putting buckle carriers on you (to speed things up) and then showing you how to use the carrier you want to hire. Each person learns differently, so she will adapt to you.
  • You can either use your own baby (best to check the fit of buckle carriers) or a demo doll if you prefer or if that's easier (or if it's safer within the time frame, especially with back carries or babies who don't fancy going in the sling on the day, it happens!).
  • You will go over safety aspects and receive a safety leaflet (it will also be emailed).
  • If you run out of time and you need a bit more help, another consultant/peer supporter might be able to offer you extra time if possible on the day (we can't make guarantees).
  • So as to accommodate everybody on the day and reduce waiting times, you may be paired up with 1 or 2 other parents coming to learn the same skill.
  • You can hire a sling/s on the day.
  • You can hire any sling for as long as you want, see fees and hire length below.
  • Feel free to hang out if you need to feed/change your baby/chat with other parents. It is a breastfeeding friendly space.

What happens after the sling library?

  • After the sling library, Jazz will email you links to video tutorials and sling safety.
  • You can send her pictures on Whatsapp if you have any concerns or questions.
  • You will be reminded via email to return your sling 3 days before the due date and you can choose to return the sling either at the next sling library session or by post (postal instruction will be given), or to renew the sling hire. The fees are £5/month for stretchy wraps and Close Caboos. For all other types of slings: £5/week, £15 for 1 month or £10/month with a minimum 2 months' hire.

How much is it?

  • £20 for a 20 mins slot including a 4 weeks' hire of a sling or 2 months for stretchy wraps and Close Caboos
  • £15 for a 20mins slot to learn to use your own sling
  • £10 for an additional sling hire for 4 weeks
  • There is also the opportunity to hire a sling without having a 1-2-1 consultation.

The charges cover the cost of the room hire, cost of slings, boring admin stuff like insurance and IT, washing of the slings and other expenses.

Jazz looks forward to meeting you all and supporting you on your babywearing journey!

When are the Sessions?

The sessions are monthly:

  • 11.45am to 2.15pm on Monday 25th March
  • 11.45am to 2.15pm on Monday 29th April
  • 11.45am to 2.15pm on Monday 20th May

A somatic theme to this trio of events over the next three days...

On Saturday, @gabriella.moon_ has only two places remaining for Spirit Dance. Taking its roots in shamanic practise, Brazilian samba, yoga, tai chi, somatic body work, energy healing, improvisation and intuitive movement; Spirit Dance is about connecting us to our body’s innate wisdom, sometimes for the first time.

On Monday, Emily Hughes @findingflowparenting explores Mum Rage in a beautifully supportive women's circle. As a somatic therapist Emily delves into how and why our body (followed by the mind) can be triggered by our children.

Later on, again on Monday Jasmin McGonigle @camdenbabywearing ensures that wearing your baby/small person is a comfortable and intuitive as possible at the Camden Baby-wearing Sling Library

You can find out more and book via our bio.

Today is [Mother] Earth Day - thinking about the entire Earth and what we can do to ensure survival on this planet can feel daunting - but here are some local initiatives that can support you to support the Earth.

🌍 @growing_green_london - set up by local Mamas - amongst other things their focus is rewilding our local schools, you can support them by donating or volunteering - they have a second-hand clothes sale fundraiser this Sunday and an Open Garden event on 9th June - join them.

🌍 @heath_hands - supporting our beautiful Hampstead Heath, sustaining its biodiversity and protecting it for wildlife and humans to enjoy.

🌍 @nadiaswastechallenge - a local Mama who gives us her own experiences of modifying domestic habits to help support the Earth - giving realistic tips - follow her page.

🌍 @fair_well_london - tackle the plastic pollution crisis by removing plastic packaging from the final stage of the food distribution chain and solving the main problem with plastic-free shopping: inconvenience. They come to you, you just need to book and buy.

🌍 @kentishtownlibraryofthings - borrow items, such as drills, carpet cleaners, projectors - you don't have to buy them - sharing the things you won't use often is a simple action all of us can take to live more sustainably - they're based at Kentish Town Library.

🌍 @kentishtownvegbox - all their produce is organic or naturally grown and sourced from small-scale farms as close to London as possible.

These are just a few of the local initiatives supporting our environment, support them and use them - helping the Earth starts at home.

[This post is a re-working of our 2023 Earth Day post, but it's all just as relevant]

A warm re-introduction to Jasmin (Jazz) McGonigle @camdenbabywearing who's recently set up the wonderful resource of a sling and baby carrier library in our corner of London.

Jazz is a mother to two beautiful girls, with one more on the way. Motherhood changed everything for her, as it does for many new mothers. Realising she couldn't return to her job, she found purpose in supporting other new parents on their journey. Discovering Baby-wearing was transformative, giving her the confidence to venture out with a less fussy baby. She knew she had found her calling.

Seeing children being worn brings her immense joy. Jazz personally favours woven wraps and has delved into the world of different fabrics and tying techniques.

Now a qualified baby-wearing consultant, Jazz runs her own Sling Library, empowering others to experience the benefits of baby-wearing from pregnancy to toddlerhood.

Volunteering with @wrapahug_sling_library in East London and attending their monthly Family meet-ups in Tower Hamlets brings her great fulfillment. However, as a local parent in North London, Jazz felt compelled to start something closer to home, leading to the creation of the Sling Library at Moon.

She now offers monthly sling library sessions and home visits to support parents during the postpartum period.

Jazz also participates in Moon's monthly 'New Parent Drop-in,' cherishing the supportive community it provides.

You can find out more about Jazz and the sling library via the link in our bio.
