Workshops and Sessions offered:

I became a birth worker in 2014 after I had my own two children and got fascinated by birth and the female body.

Coming from a journalistic background I have worked as a TV reporter and in PR before but had never really enjoyed my time there and longed for something more profound, more helpful to mankind.

I’ve become passionate about supporting people through their journey to parenthood and advocating for human rights in the birthing space, and am now a doula, antenatal practitioner and pregnancy yoga teacher. I also work as a doula for Happy Baby Community and volunteer for Birth Companions - two charities that help pregnant women in vulnerable circumstances.

Birthing might be the most sacred and vulnerable time of one's life but in the right circumstances it can be hugely empowering too. I believe that everyone deserves a birth that is their choice and on their terms, and where they are treated with respect and humanity regardless of their circumstances and background.

Blue Monday? Is this really a thing or just a holiday company marketing ploy (apparently this is how it became part of our cultural conversation).

Does this 'day' open up the conversation about mental health or trivialise the very real challenge many face with their mental health?

I'm not sure what the answer is...

This photo was taken 3 years ago, Luna not quite 3 months old.

Her birth had compelled me into action. Her entry into the world had been powerful & exhilarating. Yet when talking about it, I felt guilt, as if I were being smug, my experience seemed so far from the norm...

This is when my anger started...

Why were so many women & birthing people's birth stories full of pain, fear, trauma, a blow to self-confidence rather than inspiring & fuelling it?

Yet when talking about it, I felt guilt, as if I were being smug, my experience seemed so far from the norm... This is when my anger started... Why were so many women & birthing people's birth stories full of pain, fear, trauma, a blow to self-confidence rather than inspiring & fuelling it? Like all female mammals we're designed to birth. So why is it that 2020-21 NHS data shows that only 47% of births in England resulted from aΒ  "spontaneous method of onset". Meaning that 53% were a result of induction or caesarean or that the data wasn't available (see graph). Why are more & more women seeking support to tackle birth trauma & birth related PTSD? THIS ISN'T RIGHT! Yet, as a society we seem to accept it... THIS IS WRONG! I make no apology for shouting this. It needs to be heard, but isn't, despite thousands of birthworkers shouting about it a lot louder & for a lot longer than me. So does the change have to come from us, the people giving birth? This doesn't seem fair... although I can't see how else maternity care will step away from the worrying path of medicalisation it's currently on. Unfortunately the birth language I find myself using is that of war: 'arming yourself with info' & 'fighting for your rights'. How has it come to this, midwives & obstetricians aren't our enemy, they're our allies! You could write a PhD on how we've reached this point, but the outcome is the same, we, as birthing women, must act. We must have the confidence to trust our intuition, the knowledge to talk to the medical professional about what we want & why. Information is key. So 3 years ago I made this my aim, to try my best to help women & birthing people access the info & support they might need. Little did I know that 3 years later this would lead me to Moon. Moon opens this ethos up beyond maternity; supporting women in all aspects of their journey through life, puberty, periods, menopause & beyond. I feel amazed & grateful. #womenshealth #womensupportingwomen #informationiskey1 day ago
