This month Sophie and Dr Sunila are focusing on how acupuncture can support us through the hormonal change of the perimenopause and menopause at:
â The Acupuncture Collective
đď¸ 2pm to 8pm - Monday 19th January
đMoon Womenâs Health, 63 Chetwynd Road, NW5 1BX
Book via our bio.
This is Part 1 of a series focused on hormones - in Marchâs clinic they'll be looking at hormonal irregularity in our menstruating years.
Perimenopause and menopause can be a surprise to many of us. Largely hushed up by our mums, this hormonal shift can creep up without warning.
The good news is, that for most of us, once ideas of self-care, nutrition, exercise and HRT options have been given some attention, thereâs a very good chance we'll feel better than ever.
And guess what?
Yes, youâre right, acupuncture is one of the best forms of self-care for women, especially during hormonal turbulence.
And what better time to have a health reboot! January of course.
In Chinese philosophy, Winter is the most Yin time of the year. Yin is characterised as the passive female principle of the universe, sustaining and associated with earth, dark, and cold. Natureâs energy is low, and so is ours, so TLC is at the top of the agenda.
The perimenopausal time of life is when your boat can be severely rocked and it can arrive out of the blue. The symptoms can be slight or debilitating, it's different from person to person. This is because our hormonal balances are unique.
Acupuncture can help get to the root cause of symptoms we may experience:
â Hot flushes
â Night sweats
â Vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex
â Difficulty sleeping
â Low mood or anxiety
â Reduced libido
â Problems with memory and concentration
â Backache
â Stiff joints
â Irregular periods
Primarily we look at how we can nourish your Kidney energy. In Chinese Medicine, Kidneys are associated with our life battery, bones and attitudes to risk and fear and levels of anxiety. By balancing this meridian, we can help calm anxiety, night sweats, and hot flushes, helping bring more restful sleep. There's a good chance your sex drive will get a boost at the same time too!

Local artist Jen Cable is generously loaning us her artworks for another year (delighted), as well as gifting us a pair of tickets for the Stitch Festival (read below for how to win).
For these early weeks of the year, as the trees lay bare, weâve chosen to borrow 'Arboretum'. This beautiful piece showcases the branch patterns and strong silhouettes that our local woodlands offer at this time of year, as the trees conserve energy, and wait - an essential pregnant pause before they break forth into Spring.
Like the trees, this is not a time for us to be hitting the high notes of productivity! We should be âwinteringâ. Taking time to sleep a little more, eat nourishing food, and spend quiet time. This essential rest can support our mood, hormones and overall wellbeing, helping to reduce burnout and long-term stress.
Although, even in our Winter state, like the trees, we can be looking towards the Spring. So weâve very pleased to be able to offer you the chance to win tickets for the Stitch Festival (Business Design Centre, N1, 19th - 22nd March).Â
Jen has been selected to show her stitched tree bark at this yearâs event, alongside other fabulous works from the UK, New Zealand, and Chile.
Itâs an amazing day out there are hundreds of workshops, demonstrations, catwalks, talks, plus all kinds of exhibitors selling specialist craft supplies. So if youâre into stitch or crafting, you will be in for a treat. To win them all you need to do is tag a potentially interested friend into this post*.
Jen has also secured us a ticket discount code giving £2 off the regular ticket price, valid any day except the Saturday. Just type in JENCABLE26 at checkout. The code is valid till 8th March.
Enjoy this period of wintering and see you at Moon soon.
